Longtime Alabama Sports Columnist Cecil Hurt Dies At 62

INDIANAPOLIS — The College Football Playoff honored late Tuscaloosa News columnist Cecil Hurt at the national championship Monday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

A press box seat was reserved for Hurt in memoriam with flowers and a sign. Hurt died in late November at age 62 from complications from pneumonia.

He had worked for The Tuscaloosa News since 1982, covering Alabama athletics for nearly four decades as an authoritative voice on Alabama, the SEC and college athletics. He was also a member of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the 2011 tornado.

The CFP also honored two others with press box seats in memory of Larry Wahl and Russ Anderson.
